Rhenium
Rhenium is used in solid metal form (pellets) as an alloying additive into single crystal Nickel-based superalloys to improve jet engine cast blade operation at high temperatures, leading to improved fuel economy in many of today’s modern civilian and military aircraft.
In powder from, Rhenium is used to make Tungsten Rhenium (W-Re) and Molybdenum Rhenium (Mo-Re) thermocouples.
In its Ammonium Perrhenate (APR) form (white free flowing crystals), Rhenium is used in Platinum-Rhenium reforming catalysts.
Avon Metals subsidary, Avon Specialty Metals Ltd, is the exclusive European agent for Thompson Creek Metals – a major primary producer of Rhenium and APR.
Avon markets the following Rhenium products :-
> Rhenium Metal Pellets – superalloy grade – approved at all the major vac melters
> Rhenium Metal Powder
> Catalyst Grade Ammonium Perrhenate (69.4% Rhenium)
> Perrhenic Acid
